    Scottsdale police officers asking for equal pay

    The Police Officers of Scottsdale Association wants pay equal to that of other agencies around the Valley, and is petitioning the city to consider sworn personnel separate from other municipal employees. Veteran Scottsdale officers who have six years on the streets earn about about $1,000 a year less than entry-level Tempe recruits who don't have any experience.

    Officer Craig Abernethy is currently working in partnership with Wal-Mart on Northsight Blvd. to scheduling monthly “Shred Events” with CINTAS Shredding Company for community members throughout 2012. This would be a great opportunity to “clean house” and gather your unwanted papers and have them shredded before they get into the wrong hands.

    While the City reports increases in almost every area of revenue and the City Manager sits before the City Council bragging about the millions of dollars that we the employees are saving, we continue to lose Police Officers at a rate faster than we can fill the vacancies.

    Many, many times during the last budget cycle POSA warned the City Council, City Manager and City Treasurer, if you don't raise Police Officer compensation YOU WILL LOSE OFFICERS. Unfortunately, our pleas were ignored.

    Shop with a cop!The 9th Annual Shop with a Cop Event will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2011 in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The Police Officers of Scottsdale Association and POSA OUTREACH, along with law enforcement officers from the Scottsdale Police Department, DPS State Gang Task Force (GIITEM), Tempe PD, AZDOC, the Town of Paradise Valley PD, ASU PD, Arizona Probation Officers Association, US Marshals Posse, Salt River PD and Phoenix PD will donate their time and their hearts to this worthy program.
